What is Facial Reflexology?
Facial Reflexology Sorensensistem™ is a new generation of holistic
complementary therapy. Developed by Lone Sorensen, Facial Reflexology combines three ancient therapies with modern science of neurology. It is the combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine, South American Zone Therapy, Vietnamese face maps & points and our most currentknowledge of neuro-anatomy.
Its effectiveness is found in its ability to help
encourage the individual's natural healing process. It works by
stimulating nerve points and zones on the face by using Facial Reflexology techniques devised (and trademarked) by Lone Sorensen to
bring the body's energy systems back into alignment and balance. It consists of using
precise stimulation of reflex points and zones on the face and scalp,
sometimes on their own and often in combinations to stimulate the brain
using the nervous system to send impulses directly to affect
corresponding specific parts of the body. These actions trigger the release of endorphins and serotonin.
The brain is a communications center consisting of billions of neurons or nerve cells. Network of neurons pass messages back and forth to different structures within the brain, the spinal column, the peripheral nervous system and the hormonal system. These nerve networks coordinate and regulate all of our body functions and everything we feel, think and do.
Sorensen describes Facial Reflexology as “a reflex technique based on the
neuro-biochemical action that is caused by stimulating an area or a
point, and which has both a general and /or partial effect in the entire
organism”. Based on 30 years of research and practical implementation, the Facial Reflexology Sorensensistem™ “is a therapy to treat organic, muscle and bone
symptoms, to regulate the metabolism / hormonal system and to activate
the micro circulation, plus helping emotional symptoms like anguish,
mental fatigue, lack of memory, insomnia etc.”.
How is Facial Reflexology different from Foot Reflexology?
Facial Reflexology can be combined with other reflexology methods, but it is a technique that can be used on itself.
Foot Reflexology works on the theory that every organ has a corresponding reflex area in the feet, and when stimulated, can strengthen the bodily functions.
Facial Reflexology works through the stimulation of the many nerve endings in the skin of the face and is able to stimulate the performance of the entire body. There are different micro systems that, like a keyboard related to the brain, send information to the organs, functions and body area.
What can I expect during a session?
The session is a gentle non-invasive therapy. One remains completely clothed at all times. Facial Reflexology is deeply soothing. Often we don't realize the tension and stress that our facial muscles are holding and transmitting to our entire body. This tension is created by mundane activities: chewing, grinding teeth, tired or strained eyes, even laughing. Our face is the first location we exhibit our emotions or suppress them.
Light oil is applied to the face to assist in the technique. It
conditions the face, leaving the skin more supple, toned and healthier. The deep, smooth reflexology techniques steadily release the tension and balance the central nervous system helping the body to heal itself. One comes away relaxed and rejuvenated.
What can I expect after a session?
people describe it as a deeply relaxing, soothing session, with the added bonus of a healthier complexion and radiant face. One
must also remember that as a session is stimulating the entire body, one
can experience symptoms of detoxification. These are merely temporary
and signal the body is working to cleanse and balance. Symptoms of
detoxification could be headaches, chills, profuse sweating, change in
bowels or more frequent need to urinate. It is suggested to rest and
drink plenty of water after your session to support the body in its
transition. If any of these symptoms occur, remember it is temporary and
signals the body is working.
